Long Point Island is a privately owned island located in Harpswell, Maine
and is part of a unique coastal community of 200 islands that reach out
into beautiful Casco Bay. Long Point Island is a tidal island which means
that every twelve hours as the tides change the water recedes exposing
a rock and sand path to the mainland, just 300 yards away. In itself,
this phenomenon brings much pleasure in the form of tide watching as the
scenery is constantly changing. The island affords spectacular views of
the water activities that coastal Maine is so well known for. You will
be intrigued by the passing lobster boats, sail boats catching the wind
and kayakers paddling their way along the coast. A park like setting,
the five acres of Long Point Island are diverse with flora and fauna.
At any given time visitors to the island will see many land and sea birds
along with an occasional raccoon or red fox. Seasonally, the island blooms
with the colors and scents of bayberry, sea lavender and rugosa rose.
Close to neighboring Brunswick, a charming town which is home to Bowdoin
College, to Freeport and its shopping mecca anchored by L.L. Bean, to
Bath a shipbuilding town with a splendid Maritime Museum and to Portland,
Maine's largest city; the island is a perfect home base for your coastal
Maine vacation.
